I'm going to age myself here, but when I first heard of it I thought about those beads with the feathers hanging off of it! You know the 80's... When we braided the hair then wrapped string around it and it dreaded until we cut them out. PLEASE tell me you know what I'm talking about?

Well... These are NOTHING like them. They are super cool and you can wash, curl and keep them in your hair as normal! Nicole is on this newest trend and getting them this week! Call her to make an appointment. I will post a pic or two when I get mine.

In the Rock Star Theme, we had some great kids come for the Model Call for Class of 2012! We used Auto Detailer's garage and Nicole from Tangles kicked out some awesome hair and makeup. Some of these will become Ambassadors for the Studio and there are still some openings. We only take one boy and girl from each of the Mankato Area High Schools, so spots are filling up fast. DON'T wait. Ambassadors get their senior shoot for free including rep cards and incentives for friends who book under their card. A college scholarship is up for grabs as well! Many of you already know that I have started talking on the radio Tuesday mornings. I love connecting with current and potential clients by letting them get to know me a little better. Radio gives me the outlet to reach a large group immediately. The feedback has been positive, but it is hard to gage its effectiveness. So, any feedback would be helpful! Feel free to comment below.

This morning around (8:40 am), I will be on our one of our top local stations KDOG with Brad & Sarah at 96.7. Last time we talked Little Black Book Sessions and had a blast. It is fun to be in the studio and seeing the DJs face to face. You never know what will be said with these two! Tune in and let me know what you think after. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Crested Butte Trip

I have a wonderful friend who moved to Colorado in 1996. She has made Crested Butte her home and anyone who visits can understand why. As the years have gone by, we have both gotten married and now we each have two beautiful children. When Jen comes to Mankato, I take images of her family. We have talked about the possibility of my coming out and doing the same for her friends out in her neck of the woods. So...This year we made it a reality.

Even though this first year was a short trip, we think it was a definite success! I had the privilege to meet some great families and created some fun images along the way! Hopefully we can continue this as an annual event with my CO Crew. I certainly love it out there and the beauty of it all takes my breath away.

Autumn and Stand were married on October 2, 2010 in West Saint Paul at the St. James Lutheran Church. The reception was held at the Hilton Garden Inn, Saint Paul. I have known Autumn since she was a little girl and was one of my gymnasts. It is very bizarre to see her all grown up and married. I am blessed to have been able to partake in this special day. She has chosen a wonderful partner in life, as Stan is such a good guy! I promise to post more teasers soon! What a lovely couple and gorgeous day.

Little Monkey going Bananas!

Angie brought in Lincoln's very first halloween costume for a part of his 9 month shoot. The Little Monkey was absolutely adorable! We even had bananas to boot! Little Big Guy Grady!

This little guy was two weeks when he came in with his full head of hair! I think it was the first time I actually had to tuck a newborn's hair behind his ear. Grady was born on August 24th at a whopping 9 lbs. I hope he understands that he has no choice but to be a Fighting Souix fan. He has a good start with the jerseys, hats, stuffed animals and etc!

Amber and Todd were so proud and he slept very well during all of my crazy business. Once he was out and comfy, I was able to do pretty much anything I wanted. I look forward to more sessions with Grady and his family. Congratulations guys and he is lucky to have parents who are so obviously in love with him!

50th Wedding Anniversary

Jen used her session that she purchased from a silent auction, as an Anniversary Gift for her parents. Jim and Elaine Loaney celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in September. All the kids and their families were home to show appreciation and support, even all the way from Arizona. After the photo session, there was a party with many from the wedding party from 50 years ago in attendance.

We created these images at the Historical Hubbard House in Mankato. They were so great to let me position them in a nontraditional family pose on the porch. I love the vintage feel of this family image. Thanks guys for allowing me to be creative!

Cassidy Miller Class of 2011

Cassidy Miller is a senior at Mankato East High School and is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. She was a joy to photograph and we had so much fun that I had to force myself to stop!

We started the session at Reconciliation Park, a location that is very special to Cassidy. Her father, Tom Miller, carved this buffalo from a 67-ton block of local Kasota limestone. The buffalo symbolizes the spiritual survival of the Dakota people.

We continued our session downtown near the train tracks finding some fun areas to shoot. Then we finished up at the studio with a cute dress, sparkly shoes, funky chair outdoor and a jeans, adorable shirt and chandelier indoor.

Thanks for a great time Cassidy! I can't wait until you get to see the rest!

Night Time E-Session

Emily's mother won a session from a radio auction and decided to gift it to her daughter for their engagement session. We had to reschedule the shoot two times due to weather. When we could finally get the calendars hashed out, it left us with an evening session! Tim and Emily were great to work with and it is a bummer that we won't be shooting their wedding.

Doing the session at night gave us an opportunity to create some unique shots. These are just a few to get started and were taken towards the end of the session. I will add more later. These are far from all of them. Usually, I take at least a week to blog the images, but I couldn't help myself.

I was chatting with a friend last night on facebook when they reminded me of how lucky I am to absolutely LOVE what I do. I am blessed that my clients and friends, allow me into their lives and capture amazing moments. Very few I know can say this. When I hear comments like, "That is totally her personality..." or "I'm amazed how you even got these! He was such a turkey that day..." or "I haven't seen my Grandparents kiss ever..." I hear how much they appreciate the images and moments captured. How can you not love to gift them with these images and memories that will last forever?

I wish that each and every one of you get the opportunity to be in LOVE with at least some part of your job. Also, if others affect your work load in a positive manner please tell them! Appreciate those who help you and give praise when earned. We all need to hear it. I feel like I am on a soapbox, but before moving onto this adventure I know how hard it can be to be to spend so many hours a day in a place you loath! I've been there. Had I been able to find a part where I truly felt appreciated and if co-workers did as well, maybe it would have been different?

I am blessed and sincerely grateful to be where I am today. It certainly wouldn't be without the endless support of my family, friends and clients. Happy Friday to you all! I love my job and hope you can too.

Trisha and David will be married next year at Bethany Luther College, Mankato with his dad officiating. They are adorable! At first David was shy and uncomfortable with me shoving a camera with a really big lens in his face. Much less me telling him to smile, but not fake mind you, and snuggle in and forget I'm here. RIGHT! Trisha just smiled and laughed. As the session went on, and they could see why I was making them turn a certain way or hold an awkward position. This will make the wedding day so much easier as they are now comfortable in front of my camera. Big lens and all! I can't wait for the wedding.

Old Town Alexandria, VA Wedding

Learning to accept help!

So those of you who know me will understand that I don't like to accept help from anyone. "I've got it. No worries!" is my mantra. Well... now comes a life learning experience. I have for the first time broken my leg and have to take it easy? What does that mean? I don't know how to do that? However, as I was thinking about the groceries that we need and another blog I need to finish, I realized that I can't do it on my own. Humbling. I have to actually make a shopping list for my husband. What is that? You mean that I actually have to plan ahead? My idea of grocery shopping is wandering the isles and throwing whatever looks good in the cart. The goal in mind is to have enough purchased to mix and match in order to actually come up with meals when I get home. Now, my kids (ages 8 and 4) have to retrieve anything that I drop, which happens often. My clients have been rescheduled. My editing seems to be slower and driving is a new task all its own. While asking for help has proven to be difficult, I am blessed with friends and family who are both willing and able.

By the way, did I mention how I broke my leg? The episode was entirely stupid! I wasn't paying attention and boom! There I was coming home from a friends cabin without really realizing that I was back from the other bay so quickly. DUMB! I came in on the wave runner too fast and jumped off at the shoreline thinking that I could slow it down. Uhmm? Not really going to happen when you are coming in entirely too fast. Wave runners do not have breaks and the shoreline wasn't long enough to catch the bottom. So... Hercules here thought that she could stop it herself? I couldn't have done it while water skiing or sky diving or even hiking somewhere? Nope! A waver runner!

Whatever the cause, as stupid as it is, I am chalking it up to another life learning experience:

Accept help once in a while. It is okay and you would do it in a heart beat for them.
Keep your desk semi clean so that people can find your stuff for you!
Pay attention while driving the wave runner!

Art and I went to school together in Winona. Well... I really only lasted there for a year, but made some of the most wonderful friends that year! Anyway, Art and I have stayed in contact and as some things change, some stay just the same! Art and his beautiful wife Michelle have been coming down from the cities to have me photograph their daughter Matilda since she was born! She is adorable. Doesn't care much for leaves on her feet though! Loved Maddy (my dog) and was the first to get pics in the new waterfall!

Description:
One guy and girl from each of the Mankato Area High Schools will be selected to be an Ideal Photography Ambassador. These students must apply and the chosen few will be hand picked by Nissa on June 6, 2010. Application deadline is 12:00pm June 5th. 2010. They will receive a free photo shoot with rep cards, referral incentives and Top Ambassador will get the $800 scholarship!

Autumn and Stan were great to shoot! We had so much fun. I can't wait until their October Wedding. They let me do some crazy fun things and we even went to an old movie theater. I really shouldn't post this many, but I have way to many to choose from.

Trying to decide if I should have an open house for my clients to see all of the new stuff that has been going on? New remodel, props, backgrounds, outdoor sets, programs, framing & more! I have been one busy girl!

I love shooting this little girl! She has the most laid back attitude. That must come from being the 5th in line! The Glade Family has been fun to watch grow up both in height and in numbers. Although, my sources say that they have said 5 is the magic number. Here are a few from last week.
